ACD Announces the Release of Version 5.0

Prediction and Databases: Bigger, Better, Faster

Advanced Chemistry Development Inc. announces the release of version 5.0 - "bigger, better and faster" processing, prediction and database software. The databases are bigger, several new features have been added to our processing and prediction modules, and the software runs much faster, thanks to an across-the-board conversion to 32-bit.
"With an emphasis on interpretation and organization of data, software from Advanced Chemistry Development has established a reputation for innovation and reliability. We are proud to continue this tradition with release 5.0," said Val Kulkov, President of ACD.
"General features of interest to the chemical community are the 32-bit conversion, ability to export to PDF format, SMILES import, and a chemical name dictionary that is 40% bigger than before," said Antony Williams, Vice President of Scientific Development and Marketing. "Also, the Online Updater will be an even faster way to deliver product enhancements via the internet to our client base."
Commenting on the spectroscopy product line, Williams said, "we have established ourselves as the market leader for NMR and naming software, and in 2001 we are poised to capture the same recognition for our MS processing software, which includes auto-assignment and some outstanding noise reduction algorithms for LC-MS datasets."
"Version 5.0 contains improved algorithms in LogP, pKa, and therefore LogD software," said Robert DeWitte, Product Manager for PhysChem and I-Lab. "However, the greatest interest has been generated with our new Solubility DB product." He added that all algorithms will be transferred to the I-Lab, the online web prediction and look-up tool, later in the year.
"With version 5.0, our chromatographic processing and simulation software continues to evolve," said Mike McBrien, Product Manager for Chromatography. "Optimization can now be achieved on the basis of a single method, retrieved from a methods database that includes chemical structures. This database, which has doubled in size from the previous release, is provided with all copies of ACD/ChromManager."
The new release will coincide with a major shift in ACD's academic sales direction, according to Ian Dugdale, Director of Sales. "The academic community will be pleasantly surprised to find the Educator Packs I and II will put full-featured software on their desktops for a very reasonable price." Not all products survived release 5.0, said Dugdale. The Chemist Version software, which allowed molecules of only 50 atoms or less and contained only a subset of features, has been phased out in favor of a policy of full-featured products.
